Nyariwa Mwangi
Dr Nyawira Mwangi, MD, PhD is currently the academic and research lead (Deputy Director -Academic) at the Kenya Medical Training College, Nairobi. She is also a country co-lead for Kenya in the Multimodal Database of Retinal Images in Africa (MoDRIA), a NIH-funded multi-country study on the use of artificial intelligence for the detection of posterior segment eye diseases in the African population.
Dr Nyawira has received a commendation from the Ministry of Health, Kenya for leading the development of the national clinical guidelines for DR, through a process described here. She has also supported the development of national clinical guidelines for DR in Ghana, in a process described here. Further, she received commendation from the Ministry of Health, Kenya for having supported the development of clinical guidelines for glaucoma and for retinopathy of prematurity.
Dr Nyawira has published research in various journals including Lancet Global Health, Lancet Planetary Health, Lancet Healthy Longevity, BMJ Open, BMC Human Resources for Health, BMC Tropical Medicine and Health, BMC Public Health, Bulletin of the World Health Organization, PLOS One, Community Eye Health Journal, Eye News and Journal of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa.
